When reading a book, it is often tempting to skip straight to the end without reading the rest. This tends to spoil your reading experience and, if you are reading the book for a club or class, can be considered cheating. Even if you decide to go back to the beginning and read the book properly, the surprise will have been destroyed - and you will be constantly thinking about the ending. Here are some steps to help resist the impulse to page-flip:
Buy a book that interests you. This will always help. One of the many reasons that people skip to the end of books is because they are bored with the book.
Think carefully about why you want to read the book. If you can't find any good reasons, then you may want to put the book down. Maybe you could come back to it at some other time when you have the urge.
Exercise some self control over yourself to refrain from doing the wrong thing.
Remind yourself that you will regret it later whenever you feel that twitch coming on. You will not enjoy the book. Keep telling yourself that and you will be one step closer to reading the book in the right order.
Think of the benefits of reading the book correctly. The plot will probably make more sense - you might get the ending mixed up if you read it first.
Enjoy the book ! All this self control is pointless if you are not enjoying the book. If you really stop enjoying it stop reading and come back later - you will have a fresh view on the world.
